Woman catches waiter ‘stealing money’ from baby shower after looking at photos
A woman claims to have solved the mystery of gift cards going missing at a family celebration after studying photos from the day – but you’ll have to have a very sharp eye to spot it.
A TikTok user known as Mariam uploaded a video to explain that her sister had thrown a baby shower two and a half years ago, but when the party had finished, she had noticed a lot of gift cards given as presents had gone missing.
So Mariam began investigating, looking through photos snapped on the day to look for any clues that might explain it.
And at first none of the pictures seemed to contain anything suspicious – until she help her finger on one image to activate ‘live photo’ mode.
The feature on iPhones records what happens 1.5 seconds before and after you take a picture, storing at as a mini video, allowing users to choose a new frame, add effects, or turn it into a GIF.
When she did it on one particular photo, she somehow spotted the movement of a waiter in the background, before zooming in for a closer look.
In the group of three staff members, the one of the right holding a tray appears to lean backwards and take something off the table behind, before concealing it behind the tray in a real blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.
The incredible spot has been viewed more than 2.3 million times on the social media platform, as people were left blown away that she had thought to watch the footage captured during every photo.
One person commented to say: “Who’s watched this more than 30 times trying to see?”
A second said: “I saw her take the card and hide it behind the serving tray.”
But others weren’t convinced, arguing: “What? This doesn’t prove or disprove anything. Were the waiters allowed to accept tips? Also you can’t even tell if it’s money in her hand.”
Mariam later uploaded an update to say that her sister had taken the video to management at the venue, and was given money back to the estimated value of the gift cards that had been lost.
She claimed the incident was also reported to the police, but that they don’t know if the staff member was ever charged.
She added: “I just hope that she’s in a better place than she was two and a half years ago when she stole from a pregnant lady.”
